Magnetips Review – Hannah

Concept

Magnetips are refillable hexagon-shaped pens containing a Neodymium magnet that connects them to each other and allows you to play and fidget with them. They are great for coloring, drawing, note-taking, and making interesting and useful creations. Both adults and children can enjoy the water based fineliners, as they can not only be used as pens, but also can be used for playing. Plus, you can’t get in trouble for having them at work or school since they are technically pens.

The pens come in two versions, including the “Colour Edition” – with a color-coded barrel – and the “Black Edition” – with black barrels and a small band colored in accordance with the pen color. They can be bought on the site for 34 £ in the UK (which converts to about $43.59 in the US). That’s a bit expensive for just 20 pens.

Packaging and Instructions

Magnetips arrive in a cardboard box with a tray that slides in and out. The case is very durable and can be reused to store the pens. The inside of the box lists a variety of things you can do with Magnetips, and instructions on how to replace the refill tubes. The back of the box contains a spectrum of colors that correspond to the colors of the pens. It also lists the name of the company’s website for other ideas on creative ways to use Magnetips.

Color

When I first received my set of pens, I tried them out right away. The magnets worked wonderfully and were very strong. I had a lot of fun building with them and I love the concept of them. But when I tried writing with them, half of the pens were pretty much dried out and would hardly write. I am aware that the company is trying to improve the quality of their ink, so I’m not sure if I was given an updated set or just one of their older ones. I hope that soon they will be able to fix all of the problems with the ink in their pens. I think then the sales will increase. However, according to others who’ve bought the product, the customer service of the Magnetips company is excellent, and they are gladly willing to provide you with another set of refills if yours are dried out.

Uses

As I’ve mentioned before, Magnetips pens have many creative uses. You can stick them together in almost any way, due to the fact that the magnets in them are so strong. They will stick to your fridge or locker (or virtually any other metal surface)  for easy and convenient list making. You can make them into a pen holder and they will hold other metal objects such as paper clips, so that you can keep your desk tidy. Kids can build toys out of them, like a ramp for cars, a castle, or a triangle that spins on its own (using chrome balls also sold on the site).

Because they are fine-tipped, they are great for coloring in small spaces and making intricate details. And the lids won’t get lost, because the magnets will hold them stuck to the end.

Pros and Cons

The only problem many people have seemed to have experienced with the pens is with the ink. The company needs to work on improving the shelf life of the pens. They are quite expensive, which may be due to the fact that the company only started a few years ago. If they could figure out a way to lower the price and prolong the life of the pens, I believe Magnetips will become even more popular. Magnetips have so many great uses. They are fun for both kids and adults alike. The concept of them is brilliant – they help with organization and concentration and encourage creativity – and the fact that they are magnetic and refillable makes them even more fun and handy for everyone.
